Redmine DragonFlyBSD - Bug #1588 (Closed): shell inserts spurious newline after backquote expansionhttps://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/15882009-10-26T04:22:11Zcorecode

I came across a very strange sh bug today.

The attachment is a reduced case (original a configure script). If you
run it, sh will create a file "o". The bug is that sh will insert a
newline where it should not appear.

I tracked it down to commit 0c6fe0fc88 [1], but I am not convinced that
it actually introduced the bug. If you change MINSIZE to any other
value, the bug at hand does not show anymore. That's why I think that
this commit simply uncovered an existing bug.

Anybody have some clue what is going on?

cheers
simon

When the debugged process performs a fork(), gdb/ptrace won't notice and
will not be able to remove breakpoints in the new child. When the child
then hits a breakpoint, it will receive a SIGTRAP and dump core.

gdb needs to be aware of forks, so that it will be able to remove the
breakpoints in the child.

What are the defaults? I think this is due to termcap/terminfo and the
terminal disagreeing on the defaults.

When performing a mirror-copy from an old hammer version to a new
version, no directory contents appear. the pfs is basically unusable,
yet uses up disk space.

THIS IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING AND DANGEROUS. WHY IS THIS STILL NOT FIXED?

disklabel64 is a prime example for unintuitive behavior:

it requires an arbitrary 4KB aligment on sizes and offset

size aligments seem to be enforced directly, but offset alignments are
not. offsets just show up as "ILLEGAL" when re-editing the label. no
complaint before

automatic sizing using "*" does not work:

d: * * HAMMER

but then:
partition d: size out of bounds (4825292800)

the size is completely off, roughly by a factor of 10(!)

I had to do:

d: 4 * HAMMER

and then re-edit to make it read

d: * 4712200 HAMMER

there is no way to change the display block size

there is no way to specify sector counts or byte counts in size/offset

Something changed between 2.2 and 2.4 so that the screen binary reports
"Must be connected to a terminal" when invoked from an ssh tty. We need
to preserve binary compatibility.
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #1538 (New): mountroot should probe file systemshttps://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/15382009-09-28T01:48:34Zcorecode

When mounting root from hammer, it is necessary to specify the file
system type in the vfs.root.mountfrom setting, otherwise the machine
will just be unhappy and issue the mountroot prompt (or rather, directly
go to ddb, see other bug report). This is very inconvenient and
irritating. The kernel should try all available file systems to mount root.

Possibly this should also be extended to mount itself, but this bug
report only deals with the mountroot issue.
