Redmine DragonFlyBSD - Bug #1386 (Closed): kernel modules installed in wrong place?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/13862009-05-24T01:53:37Zwa1ter

I just pulled from the git mirror at theshell.com and built world,
and also kernel -- but using the old-style method of running 'config'
from /usr/src/sys/config and then compiling in the sys/compile directory.

The building went fine, but the 'install' target put the kernel modules
in / instead of /boot/modules. (The old modules did, however, go in the
/boot/modules.old directory.)

Is the old method still supported, BTW? It's been working well for me
until today's update.
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #1185 (New): need a tool to merge changes into /etchttps://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/11852008-12-20T07:47:08Zwa1ter

I run mergemaster occasionally because it catches files that
make upgrade misses. Today it misses about half a dozen or
so, including aliases, ftpusers, /usr/Makefile, and maybe a
few others I can't remember.

Thanks.
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #1176 (Closed): More if_re headaches for Sephehttps://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/11762008-12-08T10:28:09Zwa1ter

Hi Sephe,

I see you've already put a lot of work into the realtek driver,
and now I have another problem to report, sorry.

Your commit <d4d77345> on Oct 9, "Use hardware timer to simulate
interrupt moderation", broke the emulated realtek driver in the
kvm flavor of qemu.

The bootup ifconfig seems to go okay; 'ifconfig re0' looks like
everything should be working, but it seems that no packets
ever go anywhere. Reverting the above commit fixes the problem.

Well, I should mention that during bootup, dhcp seems to work
okay -- re0 winds up with the appropriate IP address assigned
by the kvm emulated machine -- so at least some packets get
somewhere, but certainly not out to the internet after bootup.

But I'm not finished complaining yet :o( The watchdog timeouts
that you recently committed a fix for are still happening for
me when running dfly under kvm. (I don't have a real machine
with a realtek nic, sorry.)

pciconf says: chip=0x813910 rev=0x20.

I'd be very happy to try any patches or diagnostic tests you
can think of.

Thanks Sephe!
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #1055 (Closed): kdump is segfaulting on HEADhttps://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/10552008-07-08T01:22:00Zwa1ter

Is anyone else having the same problem?
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #965 (Closed): 'FILE' undefined on -DEVEL?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/9652008-03-10T02:33:04Zwa1ter

While trying to build a pkgsrc package, the configure step failed because this
code won't compile on DFly:

#include <sys/types.h>
#include <inttypes.h>
#include <stdint.h>
#include <stddef.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <stdio.h>

typedef FILE ac__type_new_;
int
main ()
{
if ((ac__type_new_ *) 0)
return 0;
if (sizeof (ac__type_new_))
return 0;
;
return 0;
}

AFAICT, the reason is that FILE is undefined, or wrongly defined. The same
code compiles on the other BSDs and linux, so we are different somehow.

Is this by intention, and why?

Thanks.
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #921 (Closed): Confusion about threadlibs?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/9212008-01-17T07:13:02Zwa1ter

I'm not sure if I'm confused or DragonFly is confused. After
building world and kernel (HEAD) today, I'm unable to build
pkgsrc/perl5 because miniperl dumps core.

I tried gdb on the coredump:

Reading symbols from /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0...(no debugging symbols
found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0
Reading symbols from /usr/pkgsrc/lang/perl5/work/perl-5.8.8/libperl.so...(no
debugging symbols found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/pkgsrc/lang/perl5/work/perl-5.8.8/libperl.so
Reading symbols from /usr/lib/libm.so.3...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/libm.so.3
Reading symbols from /usr/lib/libcrypt.so.3...
(no debugging symbols found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/libcrypt.so.3
Symbols already loaded for /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0
Reading symbols from /usr/lib/libc.so.6...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/libc.so.6
Reading symbols from /usr/lib/libthread_xu.so.2...(no debugging symbols
found)...done.
Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/libthread_xu.so.2 <========== huh?

Wait just a minute -- what is libthread_xu doing there? I'm using
libc_r, not xu:

#ls -l /usr/lib/*thread*
8 Dec 28 16:18 libpthread.a@ -> libc_r.a
2940 Jan 16 09:07 libpthread.so
9 Dec 28 16:17 libpthread.so.0@ -> libc_r.so
606946 Jan 16 09:07 libthread_xu.a
17 Jan 16 09:07 libthread_xu.so@ -> libthread_xu.so.2
61252 Jan 16 09:07 libthread_xu.so.2

There is a new gdb in the mix today, also. Too many variables
for me.

Anyone else tried building pkgsrc/perl5 on today's HEAD?
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #889 (Closed): Installing ld-elf.so.2https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/8892007-12-18T06:39:08Zwa1ter

I just did a build/installworld and I notice that the date on my
/usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.2 is Nov 27, not today. Everything else
in /usr/libexec is dated today, and the newly-compiled version
in /usr/obj/ is also dated today. The ld-elf.so.2 dated Nov 27
has the schg flag set, which I believe is proper, yes?

So, I'm assuming that ld-elf.so.2 is not getting updated now
during installworld. Anyone else running HEAD see the same?
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #886 (Closed): Is this a gcc41 bug?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/8862007-12-16T08:11:06Zwa1ter

I'm still trying to get pkgsrc/multimedia/gnash to build on DFly, and
I have more information to offer but I can't explain it.

The package compiles perfectly on NetBSD but fails on DFly with this:

/usr/pkgsrc/multimedia/gnash/work/gnash-0.8.0/server/.libs/libgnashserver.so:
undefined reference to `gnash::sound_handler::convert_raw_data(short**, int*,
void*, int, int, int, bool, int, bool)'

That missing symbol is defined in libgnashbackend.so which is also part of
gnash. I isolated the failing command in a shellscript, which runs and
works perfectly on NetBSD:

g++ -O2 -Wl,-R/usr/pkg/lib -Wl,--as-needed -o .libs/gparser parser.o
-Wl,--export-dynamic -Wl,--rpath,/usr/pkg/lib -lgnashbackend -lgnashserver
-lgnashbackend -lgnashamf -lgnashgeo -lgnashbase <lots of non-linker
garbage snipped for legibility>

Note that -lgnashbacked is definitely included in that command, so the
'missing' symbol is not really missing after all.

The following script works perfectly on DFly, and all I did was to call
the loader directly instead of going through g++:

ld --as-needed -o .libs/gparser parser.o /usr/lib/gcc41/crt1.o
/usr/lib/gcc41/crtbegin.o --export-dynamic -rpath /usr/pkg/lib
-lgnashbackend -lgnashserver -lgnashbackend -lgnashamf -lgnashgeo
-lgnashbase -lc <-Lpaths snipped for legibility>

So, my question is: why is g++ not linking gparser correctly? All
the same libraries are there in both cases, but g++ complains about
that missing symbol when it's not missing at all.

What approach to debugging this would you use?

Thanks for any clues.
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #873 (Closed): What happened to Elf64_Sxword?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/8732007-12-04T04:24:05Zwa1ter

That value is defined in FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, and linux, but not
in DFly. Pkgsrc/devel/libelf won't build on DF because it's missing.

Any particular reason to remove it?
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #843 (Closed): Missing MAXNAMLEN?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/8432007-11-19T22:44:03Zwa1ter

FreeBSD, NetBSD, linux all define MAXNAMLEN in dirent.h, but not DFly.
Is this an oversight or deliberate?
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #824 (Closed): Is this a compiler error?https://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/8242007-10-05T23:16:06Zwa1ter

While trying to build pkgsrc/emacs on HEAD with the default gcc41 I'm
getting an error that just doesn't make sense. This is taken from
'dragonfly.h' in the emacs sources:

#if defined(GNUC) && GNUC 3 && GNUC_MINOR 4

ifndef DFLY_PRE_17_CRT
#define START_FILES pre-crt0.o /usr/lib/gcc34/crt1.o /usr/lib/gcc34/crti.o /usr/lib/gcc34/crtbegin.o
#define LIB_STANDARD -L/usr/lib/gcc34 -lgcc -lc -lgcc /usr/lib/gcc34/crtend.o /usr/lib/gcc34/crtn.o

else
#define START_FILES pre-crt0.o /usr/lib/crt1.o /usr/lib/crti.o /usr/lib/crtbegin.o
#define LIB_STANDARD -L/usr/lib/gcc34 -lgcc -lc -lgcc /usr/lib/crtend.o /usr/lib/crtn.o

endif
#else
#error "Add compiler version magic"
#endif

The problem is that 'error' is triggered no matter what that first 'if'
checks for. E.g. that first line can be changed to #if 0 and that same
'error' is still triggered.

Either gcc41 is broken or I am. Which is it?
DragonFlyBSD - Bug #739 (Closed): Panic in msdosfs on -HEADhttps://bugs.dragonflybsd.org/issues/7392007-07-26T21:54:02Zwa1ter

I just discovered that this is a very old problem, but I just noticed
it today. On boot I see this:

psm0: failed to get data.
psm0: <PS/2 Mouse> irq 12 on atkbdc0
psm0: model Generic PS/2 mouse, device ID 0

The mouse works in spite of that error message, but only the first
time the psm0 device is used. Until today I was using moused to
manage the mouse, so psm0 was only opened at boot, and worked
correctly because I never shut down moused until reboot.

Now I find that if I stop moused and try to start it again, I see
'cannot open /dev/psm0, device not configured' and the only thing
I can do is reboot the machine. X acts the same way even if I don't
use moused.

This is specific to DragonFly (FreeBSD-current and linux both work
correctly on the same machine) and the problem goes back at least
as far as DF 1.5 (which I also still have on this same machine).

I put CCVER=gcc41 in make.conf, and I get this error during
make buildworld:

make: don't know how to make
/usr/obj/usr/src/world_i386/usr/src/gnu/lib/gcc41/libstdc++/../libiberty/libiberty.a.

Has anyone else tried gcc41 yet? Simon?
