According to this statistics page, the top 2 dead links are topbar-trans.png and leaf-bg.png.
topbar-trans.png is a small logo on top of each mailing list entry. See: http://web.archive.org/web/20070108080510/http://leaf.dragonflybsd.org/mailarchive/kernel/2003-0\

in order to show up a small logo on each mail archive page, we can link /images/small_logo.png to /images/topbar-trans.png.
leaf-bg.png is a background image which can be removed in order to increase usability.
Attached is a patch for stylesheet.css which removes the background image.
