There is only a man page for mount_smbfs, shouldn't there also be one for smbfs(4)?

Not necessarily. But it would be smb(5) then. In fact most filesystems
don't have an own manual page (no ext2(5), udf(5), etc. etc.).
Originally, there were only mount_<fs>.8 pages. Those in man5 are rather
new.

Of course if you submitted one, it would be added.
