Tested the patch with the following controller:
atapci2: <Intel ICH9 SATA300 controller> port
0x3420-0x342f,0x3430-0x343f,0x3490-0x3493,0x3460-0x3467,0x3494-0x3497,0x3468-0x346f
irq 9
at device 31.2 on pci0
Works fine (until now :) Is there any ``visible'' difference or should
I just check that the machine/controller is up and running?

I don't think there will be visible difference. Checking your box is
up and run should be enough :)
