Bug #634
closedmk.conf change
0%
Description
Anyone object to changing src/nrelease/root/etc/mk.conf from
X11_TYPE=xorg
to
X11_TYPE=modular
?
It would also be good to have it install to /usr/pkg/etc/mk.conf so that
it's all under $LOCALBASE, but I don't know an immediate way to change
that.

Can it please be dropped completely? See the discussions on
pkgsrc-users@ for the reason. The default will change soon anyway.

If X11_TYPE is not set, what gets installed? What happens if we drop it
completely?
What it is now, to save people the effort of looking:
PKG_DBDIR=/var/db/pkg
LOCALBASE=/usr/pkg
VARBASE=/var
FETCH_CMD=/usr/pkg/bin/ftp
PAX=/usr/pkg/bin/pax
X11_TYPE=xorg
WRKOBJDIR=/usr/obj/pkgsrc

The current default for DragonFly is X11_TYPE=xorg. That's defined in
pkgsrc/mk/platform/DragonFly.mk. The fallback define is X11_TYPE=native
in pkgsrc/mk/defaults/mk.conf.
At some point in the future, the default will change to X11_TYPE=modular
for DragonFly. Future == somewhere within this quarter. Depending on the
feedback of issues still left, it is sooner or later.

That future date should (I hope) be before the next DragonFly release, if
at all possible, or else we'll end up with the old version of xorg
trailing around until the 2.2 release.
The 'it' I referred to when asking about dropping it was the whole file -
are those other values also going to be set to the same by default? What
I'm working towards is: will there be any noticeable change for users,
other than possibly X11_TYPE, if that file goes away?

WRKOBJDIR could be -- but I prefer to have consistent default behaviour
on all platforms. The rest of the parameters is derived from the
bootstrap parameters, so the generated version is always consistent with
the built tools.
