Description

Here's the vkernel article I did back in February. Some of you may have
already read it on lwn.net (http://lwn.net/Articles/228404/ and
http://lwn.net/Articles/230658/). Now that the subscriber-only period is
ended, I can finally submit it for inclusion in the project docs, along with
the two appendices that didn't make it in the lwn.net articles.

Let me also thank Matthew Dillon for reviewing the text, suggesting
improvements and being patient with my sometimes confused questions on
kernel@ and commits@ and Simon Schubert for going over the FPU subsection.
All mistakes are of course my own.

I really liked the article. Poor LWN, though, I don't think their
reader base is sophisticated enough for the article if all they can
do is complain about it not being Linux. I'd like to see it in some
of the BSD rags.

Me too, if only to see the inevitable "This was also on lwn.net. Eeew. This
site is now tainted for ever as far as I'm concerned" comments :)

More seriously, the people who post comments are hardly representative of the
reader base and that goes for lwn.net as much as for the BSD news sites. I
think the extra exposure to developers was worth the delay in getting the
article published and the few "what's a bsd article doing here" comments.

That said, I'd be more than happy to send it to e.g. daemonnews if I could
find a way to contact them in their pages (can someone with sharper eyes help
here?). Alternatively, if/when it finds its way in the docs or in the wiki, I
can submit the url to, say, bsdnews. If anybody has a better suggestion, I'm
all ears.

BSDNews and daemonnews is the same thing, I think.

I intend to put it into the articles preserved on the www.dragonflybsd.org
site, when I get a chance. (don't let that stop anyone else from beating
me to it.)

I was thinking earlier this week (and I don't have patches for this by
the way), why not make a seperate "press" section and put in all the
articles that deal with DragonFly?

We don't really have enough press articles to count - I'd call this
article more research than anything.

I'm thinking on adding a link to the Guides section of our webpage.

Do you think that would be OK or better left it on the wiki?

Put it right on the website, with a link to the publication address. We
have permission from the author, and that way we don't have to worry about
the original link going stale.
