Works fine for me; I tried blanking and writing a CD-RW and both worked as
expected. Got an OptiArc DVD+-RW unit attached to SATA+AHCI.

Nope, still the same with the latest master.

The commit 69b3741eda7a43961baaf659f4c99e8ad054a899 seems to address ATAPI
issues, too. Could you confirm that this commit still doesn't fix the issue?
